💸 AI Economics: Intelligence Is Getting Cheap
For most of human history, access to expertise was scarce.
If you wanted great legal advice, scientific analysis, computer programming, tutoring, strategy or research, you needed access to a person who had spent years learning how to do it.
That scarcity made expertise valuable.
Something strange is happening now.
Meta and Google both released powerful new AI models this week. Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg described the performance of its newest model as “almost too cheap to meter.”
That sentence may matter more than any benchmark.
AI economics is changing the race from simply building the smartest machine to making intelligence abundant, instantaneous and extraordinarily inexpensive.
Google’s new Gemini 3.8 Flash follows the same trajectory, with improved reasoning, coding and autonomous-agent capabilities delivered at remarkably low cost.
⭐ Why AI Economics Matters
We usually talk about AI replacing tasks.
The bigger transformation may be what happens when increasingly sophisticated assistance becomes inexpensive and widely accessible.
A student can have a tutor beside them at midnight.
An entrepreneur can have help with strategy, research, programming and analysis before breakfast.
A teacher can create something in minutes that once took an afternoon.
The advantage will increasingly belong not simply to the person who knows the most, but to the person who knows what to ask, what to question, what to create — and what deserves their attention.
That should change how we think about education.
Teaching students to accumulate information made enormous sense when information and expertise were scarce.
But what should we teach when intelligence itself becomes abundant?
Perhaps the most valuable skills become the distinctly human ones:
Curiosity
Judgment
Character
Creativity
Courage
AI may soon make intelligence cheap.
The question for education is: what becomes priceless?
