AI Now Able to Identify Cancer with Near-Perfect Accuracy in Major AI Cancer Detection Breakthrough

Updated: Apr 13

NewBits Digest feature on a breakthrough AI model, ECgMLP, that detects endometrial and other cancers with near-perfect accuracy—highlighting how AI is surpassing human specialists in early cancer diagnosis and reshaping global healthcare access.

Researchers have unveiled ECgMLP, a groundbreaking AI model that identifies endometrial cancer with 99.26% accuracy using microscopic tissue images—far exceeding human specialists and existing automated techniques.

What Sets It Apart

  • ECgMLP leverages advanced attention mechanisms to detect cancer cells that may go unnoticed in traditional medical analysis.

  • Current human diagnostic accuracy for endometrial cancer falls between 78–81%, making this AI model’s 99%+ precision a major leap forward.

  • It also proved highly effective in detecting other cancers, including colorectal (98.57%), breast (98.20%), and oral (97.34%).

Why This AI Cancer Detection Breakthrough Is Important

AI is reshaping cancer diagnostics, consistently outperforming human experts in early detection—where timing can mean the difference between life and death. As these models advance, they will not only save lives but also expand global access to expert-level cancer screening.

Development & Publication

The ECgMLP model was developed through an international collaboration between researchers at Charles Darwin University and Australian Catholic University (Australia), Daffodil International University (Bangladesh), and the University of Calgary (Canada).

Key contributors include Dr. Asif Karim, who optimized the model using advanced techniques like ablation studies and self-attention mechanisms, and Associate Professor Niusha Shafiabady, who highlighted its broader potential beyond endometrial cancer.

The study was published in Computer Methods and Programs in Biomedicine Update, a peer-reviewed journal.
